Weekly Picks From the Band
Book of the Week
Nine Stories
is a collection of short stories by American fiction writer J. D. Salinger released in April 1953. It includes two of his most famous short stories, "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" and "For Esmé – with Love and Squalor." (Nine Stories is the U.S. title, and the book is published in many other countries as For Esmé - with Love and Squalor, and Other Stories.)
Movie of the Week
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving based upon the popular comic strip Peanuts, by Charles M. Schulz was originally aired on the CBS network in 1973. Peppermint Patty invites herself and her friends over to Charlie Brown's for Thanksgiving, and with Linus, Snoopy, and Woodstock, he attempts to throw together a Thanksgiving dinner.
Album of the Week
The Cure - Disintegration
Most of its 12 songs are long mood pieces that develop slowly around the listener. Anchored by complex drum patterns, the layered guitars, soaring bass lines, and rich keyboards blend to create a lush, evocative soundscape that captures the ear immediately; and for all its length, the album is never boring.

Last week we had a special acoustic night at The Hive in Los Angeles and on Monday we shared the last two years of work with many family and friends at the Montalban Theatre Listening Event. We also premiered "The Ride" a short film inspired by Kings and Queens. Thank you to all the people who came out to support us before we go on tour.

To anyone who wasn't with us on Monday, don't worry! The Kings and Queens short film will be released on MySpace later this week.

Book of the Week
Lord of the Flies by Nobel Prize-winning author William Golding discusses how culture created by man fails, using as an example a group of British schoolboys stuck on a deserted island who try to govern themselves, but with disastrous results. A Classic!
Movie of the Week
Fitzcarraldo directed by Werner Herzog and starring Klaus Kinski who portrays would-be rubber baron Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald, an Irishman called Fitzcarraldo in Peru. He has to pull a steamship over a steep hill in order to access a rich rubber territory. The film is derived from the real-life story of Peruvian rubber baron Carlos Fitzcarrald.
Album of the Week
Beck - Sea Change
"'Beck's stripped-down, mellowest album shows a completely different side; from being one of the most irreverent artists to being one of the most sincere, this album showcases his vast range as a songwriter." - Jared
Website of the Week

NRDC is the nation's most effective environmental action group, combining the grassroots power of 1.3 million members and online activists with the courtroom clout and expertise of more than 350 lawyers, scientists and other professionals.

On top of the regular menu, a blackboard chalks up a couple of daily specials for around 6.50 Euros, normally a meat dish served with either rice or noodles (but they will replace the meat with Tofu for vegeterians).

A question to Tomo & Jared: Have you ever used finger picking or the clawhammer technique, like Donovan does when you play your guitars?
YES, WE ALSO USE THE CRAB TECHNIQUE AND THE RAVEN CLAW WHICH IS AN ANCIENT METHOD OF PICKING THE GUITAR STRINGS WITH THE TOES.
What do you think is most important in the music business nowadays: a unique sound, good lyrics, getting people involved and create a sense of community and unity or appeal to the teenagers or none of the above?
PROBABLY A LITTLE BIT OF THEM ALL. WE FOCUS ON PLAYING AND CREATING MUSIC AND SOUNDS THAT MAKE US HAPPY. YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU ARE PLAYING AND CREATING IF OTHERS ARE ALSO TO BELIEVE.
