Hope for Haiti Now Telethon where Jared Volunteered

This week Jared stated over twitter "Rehearsing Vox Populi sounds insane can't wait for the tour!" With less than a month before they leave for Europe, the guys have been rehearsing day and night to prepare for their biggest tour yet. US dates to be announced very soon with other countries to follow later this year.

Recently some banners have been made available on the website for Echelon to use in support of the upcoming tour. Check out the current banners and keep an eye out for more being added in the future.

Haiti is still in dire need of support from the entire world as they begin to recover from the devastating earthquake earlier this month. If you have not already made a donation, all you have to do is text 'HAITI' to 90999 to donate $10 now!

The Apartment directed/produced by Billy Wilder stars Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine and was released in 1960 as a commercial hit. A man tries to rise in his company by letting its executives use his apartment for trysts, but complications and a romance of his own ensue.

Hope For Haiti Now
Live album to benefit Hope for Haiti Now's campaign to alleviate the 2010 Haiti earthquake. All benefits from the album sales go to Haiti relief organizations, including the Red Cross and Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti foundation. Hope for Haiti Now features 19 live performances from the television broadcast Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief as well as the studio version of "Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)", the original track performed by Jay-Z, Bono, The Edge and Rihanna during the telethon.

HOUSE FOR HAITI` - AN ECHELON HOUSE PROJECT

As many of you know, the Echelon House is a project orchestrated by the fans of rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, working with Habitat for Humanity on an international level to help build homes for those in need.

Now more than ever, they need our help.

The disaster in Haiti in January of 2010 is another sobering reminder of how lucky we are, and how fast things can change.

As our main Echelon House page directs funds internationally, we have started this page to direct funds directly to Haiti during this time of crisis. At a later date, these funds will be `transferred` to our main Echelon House page, and added to our totals as a group.

Jared on CNN w/ Molly Sims and Ryan Seacrest for Haiti Relief Efforts

This Week - 01/21/2010

The members of Thirty Seconds to Mars continue to encourage their fans to support the relief efforts in Haiti over their official website, Twitter, and Facebook. This past Monday, Jared joined several other guests on Larry King Live for a live telethon that raised more than $5 Million for the victims.

Jared also brought more attention to the cause by placing the winning donation bid of $1,000 for a pair of Larry's suspenders.

Thirty Seconds to Mars has put their own auction online in support of these relief efforts. You can now bid on eBay to purchase tickets, backstage access, and dinner with the band. All proceeds will be donated to support the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

On Wednesday Haiti was hit again by a large (5.9) after-shock. If you are interested in helping right away, simply use your mobile phone to text 'HAITI' to 90999 and send $10 to the America Red Cross right now!

On a more upbeat note, Thirty Seconds to Mars will be featured on the cover of Alternative Press for the March 2010 issue. Hits stands on February 2nd.

Thirty Seconds to Mars is back in the rehearsal studio preparing for their upcoming Into the Wild World Tour, but there are many important causes around the globe that still need attention.

On Tuesday Haiti was struck by the largest earthquake ever recorded in the region.

This earthquake hit a major population center and was very devastating to the infrastructure. If you are interested in supporting the hundreds of thousands of victims of this natural disaster, take a moment to look at the options we have outlined below.

UNICEF

UNICEF is urgently appealing for emergency assistance to aid victims of a devastating earthquake that rocked Haiti. Funds are needed to provide safe water, temporary shelter systems and medical supplies. UNICEF’s country office in Haiti and the regional office located in Panama has deployed emergency teams to assess the situation and determine what the additional emergency needs are for the people of Haiti.

OXFAM

The Last Emperor is a biopic about the life of Puyi, the last Emperor of China, whose autobiography was the basis for the screenplay written by Mark Peploe and Bernardo Bertolucci. Puyi's life is depicted from his ascension to the throne as a small boy to his imprisonment and political rehabilitation by the Chinese Communist authorities.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol. II
This ambient double album by Richard D. James under his Aphex Twin moniker was released in 1994. In contrast to the fast, club-inspired ambient music of its predecessor, Volume II consists of slow, moody pieces.

The Alchemist is an allegorical novel by Paulo Coelho first published in 1988. Originally written in Portuguese, it has since been translated into 67 languages, winning the Guinness World Record for most translated book by a living author.

Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and written by Jeunet with Guillaume Laurant is a whimsical depiction of contemporary Parisian life, set in Montmartre. It tells the story of a shy waitress, played by Audrey Tautou, who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better, while struggling with her own isolation.

What an insane/amazing/intense/incredible week…

*deep breath*

Ok…

First: The new cd is out.

THIS IS WAR. Almost hard to believe the day has actually come.

Two years in the making, Flood, Lillywhite, 30mm lawsuits, global
crises, a couple birthdays, a dog gone, lots of fun, a moment or two of
panic, 10 million vocal takes, a new president, my same old car. There
were days we didn’t know if it would actually be heard.

I’m on the plane to Chicago having played a frenzy of a show last
night in Seattle with Muse, Phoenix, Metric, and Vampire Weekend and
I’m thinking about how lucky we are to be able to do all of this.
Maybe it’s the holiday crush, but this is the gift of a lifetime.The
bands were all ridiculously great last night and the crowd the most
rowdy and raucous and fun bunch of Pacific No’westerners we ever met.
We left the stage sweaty, satisfied and awed by the good peeps of
Washington.

By the way, who puts a cd out at xmas along side the heavyweights of
the biz and the holiday CDs that crowd the shelves? I guess we do!
Very happy it is finally out and there to share with the world and we
are very grateful to all of you who were choosing between Susan Boyle,
Xmas hits by Zamfir, and the new MARS and in a moment of weakness
grabbed that CD with a face of a total random stranger on it (http://www.facebook.com/FacesofMars) . BRAVE CHOICE!

P.S. We believe in the record. Maybe more than anything before. And
are so thankful for the overwhelmingly enthusiastic response. Its
unlike anything we’ve experienced. If you are reading this and
imagining how much you will may not like this album / this band, I have
a small request. Take a moment, throw away any preconceived notions,
and listen to the music. You never know… you may just like what you
hear.

Qu'est-ce qui vous a poussé à faire de la musique ?

Jared Leto : Les hippies, les vagabonds, mes origines aux abords du Mississippi, fleuve baigné de musique. Je fonctionne par pulsions, pas pour me donner un genre. Pink Floyd, les Clash, ça stimule aussi.

Films, chansons, concerts, filles : vous trouvez le temps de dormir ?

Oui. Dans les transports. En ce moment, avec la promo du film Mr. Nobody, celle de l'album et de la tournée mondiale, c'est speed. Les filles passent après tout ça. Enfin, tout dépend de la fille.

Travailler avec le producteur de U2 et des Smashing Pumpkins, ça donne quoi à l'arrivée ?

Ça met la pression, mais nous sommes fiers qu'il nous ait fait confiance. M. Flood est arrivé avec des outils auxquels nous n'étions pas habitués. Nous avons tâtonné ensemble. Nous nous sommes plantés ensemble aussi ! Par rapport au précédent album, nous avons ajouté des sonorités africaines et des vieux synthés à côté des platines et des guitares.

Vous écrivez toutes les chansons ?

Oui. Et chacune est un chapitre. Cet album est mon chapitre « dépucelage ». Il est beaucoup plus « sexuel » et percutant que les précédents.

Comment définir votre musique ?

Moderne et ouverte. Une centaine de musiciens du monde entier sont venus pour enregistrer des morceaux dans notre studio de Los Angeles. Un jeune Iranien, qui n'a pas pu venir à l'une des sessions « Sonates autour du monde », m'a donné l'idée de faire une version live en ligne, où les internautes peuvent s'enregistrer.

Comment appréhendez-vous le public de Paris-Bercy en mars 2010 ?

Ah bon ? on fait Bercy en mars ? Je l'ignorais ! Moi, je me lève et je prends ma guitare, basta ! J'adore le public français, car il a du goût. W

Jared Leto was born in Louisiana in 1971. He went to New York's School of Visual Arts, and in 1994 was cast opposite Claire Danes in the television series My So-Called Life. His movies include Fight Club, Requiem For A Dream and Alexander, and he put on 67lbs (more than 30kg) to play John Lennon's assassin, Mark Chapman, in Chapter 27. Next February, he will tour the UK with his band, 30 Seconds To Mars.

What is your earliest memory?
Fireworks and a wolf.

When were you happiest?
I'm hoping that hasn't happened yet.

Which living person do you most admire, and why?
Stephen Hawking – a great example of triumph in the face of adversity.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
The need to sleep.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Sycophancy.

It had to do with karaoke and Eye Of The Tiger.

Thirty Seconds to Mars is back in the USA after a successful tour of Europe. They've already played shows in Salt Lake City, UT and Denver, CO this week. Today they are in Houston, TX and will be making stops in Grand Prarie, West Palm Beach, and Tampa Bay before the week is over.

Last week we had a special acoustic night at The Hive in Los Angeles and on Monday we shared the last two years of work with many family and friends at the Montalban Theatre Listening Event. We also premiered "The Ride" a short film inspired by Kings and Queens. Thank you to all the people who came out to support us before we go on tour.

We have been feverishly rehearsing here in LA to prepare for the live shows coming up in just a few weeks. While the European shows have sold out, the US dates still have tickets available. Make sure you check the tour dates below to catch any of the performances near you.

This Week - 10/14/2009

Thank you so much to all the riders for coming out and joining us for the shoot. Your spirit, individuality and amazing community made this an unforgettable experience. The images we have seen so far are beyond amazing and that is all because of your participation.

We were blown away by the amount of people who showed up to join us. Positive attitudes, creative contributions, and good old fun prevailed.

From the very first ride over the bridge into downtown we knew we were in for an adventure. Taking over the streets, flying over the hill down into Santa Monica Pier, and owning Hollywood Blvd. were all incredible experiences. We were glad to have shared them with this wonderful group of people and their amazing bikes.

Kings and Queens Bike Ride Video Shoot

This Sunday night, October 11th and Monday night, October 12th we will be filming a one of a kind night time mass bicycle ride through the streets of Los Angeles as part of the short film for Thirty Seconds to Mars' new single “KINGS + QUEENS”.

We would love to invite you to join us for The Ride.

Its a one of a kind adventure and we will be shutting down streets, tunnels, bridges, Santa Monica Pier and even Hollywood Blvd.

We start shooting at 5.30pm. YOU WILL NEED YOUR OWN BIKE.

If you want to be featured prominently and/or have a specialty bike, we would like you to be there the full time for continuity purposes. If you just want to join the fun, feel free to come and be a part of it all.

We shoot the big rides SUNDAY NIGHT 5.30PM onward and MONDAY 5.30PM onward.

MONDAY we shut down HOLLYWOOD BLVD and SANTA MONICA PIER. Fun.

Fullduplex talking about 30stm
Artbreak Magazine met the German electro-rock band "Fullduplex" for an interview on the 22nd February in Berlin.
They have been opening act for 30 Seconds to Mars during the European Tour in February and May.

Last year you have been opening act for “30 Seconds to Mars”. What lead to this collaboration?
Frank: Not a big deal. I know that it was already written on the page, but I repeat myself, if necessary. We owe it to Jared (Leto), and of course the band, because they decided it to together. For a movie shoot, Jared has been to Berlin, and one night he went out with friends from LA, visiting the „White Trash“. That’s where we played. He liked it. Afterwards he told us that he thinks our music is great, and he rarely gets attached to a band like that. Sometime later, we were asked to join them as opening act on their European tour. Of course, we couldn’t turn down this chance.
Randy: We only thought that it was a mistake. We couldn’t imagine it. We have to admit, at that time we didn’t really know the band.
Frank: Of course, we knew Jared, but „30 Seconds to Mars“…
Randy: Shame on us, we didn’t know them.

What do you think about “30 Seconds to Mars” now?
Randy: I really like them. I have to say, it’s not exactly the music I usually listen to, but I really think it’s great. I really dig what they are doing.
Frank: We have been watching eight concerts in a row more or less, also depending on our condition. They have awesome tracks, great productions. It’s not the music I prefer in private, but it’s well produced. Very cool. I have a great respect for it.

What does a usual day on tour look like?
Randy: 10 hour journey, 10 hours of sitting in the car, 10 hours waiting for 10 minutes of fame.
Frank: 2 minutes for sound check.
Randy: And the time afterwards… Of course, it was the first time for us, doing it on such a large scale. We have played for 400 people, but not in front of 8000, like in Paris; it was something totally different. All the more, because you don’t know how the people react to what we do. Therefore it was quite a thrill.

There are rumors you will work with “30 Seconds to Mars” again. Is it true?
Frank: There are many. We neither want to deny nor confirm it. Certainly there will be some surprises in this context, but let’s say it like this: Jared has many, crazy ideas and we, just like you, let us surprise what may come.

We did just get to participate in a interesting activity with 30 Seconds to Mars (a rock group). They had us over to their place to visit and record some of the monks chants. They were really wonderful and we had a great time with them. Geshe Kelsang (our chant master) came up with a chant that they may put into one of the songs on their new album so that was exciting. I will let you know if it makes it. Personally I was impressed with their commitment to environmentalism. Their last tour was a “green tour” and they have incorporated global warming awareness into their music videos. Here is the link to one – A Beautiful Lie. All and all it was a lot of fun working with them and discussing world issues. Here a few pictures:
